GR101 - Independent Study Skills  
This course aims at helping students develop a wide range of effective study techniques and strategies necessary to help them succeed in their university studies. It focuses on note-taking and making use of different study media, writing reports, using study resource materials and references and preparing for examinations.  
 
TU170 - Learning On-Line  
This is a 12-week course that provides an introduction to computing and the on-line world. Students learn about software applications such as word processing, databases and electronic mail. They take part in on-line discussions, search the web and author simple web pages using HTML. This course is taught entirely on-line. The total teaching and assessment material is published on the course web site, to which only registered students have access. Students work both individually and in groups with fellow students on collaborative projects, supported by a personal tutor.  
 
AR111 - Arabic Communication Skills I  
This course aims at consolidating the students' skills and competence in listening comprehension, reading comprehension, and writing. It also aims at introducing the students to the basics of Arabic syntax, and literary appreciation.  
 
AR112 - Arabic Communication Skills II  
This course builds on and extends the knowledge and skills developed in AR111, and introduces the students to different aspects of Arab culture as reflected in the writings of leading figures both old and new. It also trains the students in research methodology, and report writing.  
 
EL111 - English Communication Skills I

BE200 - Marketing Management  
The course focuses on formulating and implementing marketing management strategies and policies, a task undertaken in most companies at the strategic business unit level. The marketing management process is important at all levels of the organization, regardless of the title applied to the activity. Typically, it is called corporate marketing, strategic marketing, or marketing management. For our purposes they all involve essentially the same process, even though the actors and activities may differ. The course will provide you with a systematic framework for understanding marketing management and strategy. The purpose of this course is to provide the students with an understanding and appreciation of marketing management. This is the capstone course for marketing majors. This course will emphasize integrating various marketing tools and models that are useful in assisting the marketing manager in making decisions.

This course focuses on and introduces the student to financial accounting concepts that are critical in order to understand the financial condition of the enterprise. It is emphasized in this course that accounting is not an end but rather it is a means to an end. It is a means by which we measure and communicate economic events. The final product of accounting information is the decision that is enhanced by the use of that information, whether the decision is made by owners, management, creditors, governmental regulatory bodies, labor unions, or the many groups that have an interest in the financial performance of an enterprise.

BE220 - Money and Banking  
This course provides an overview of the working of the financial and economic system and seeks to provide an understanding of how a financial economy operates. Problems arising from asymmetric information in markets are shown to be of vital importance in appreciating the structure and functioning of the financial system. Research in the areas of money, banking and financial markets is highly active, and deals with issues continuously in the news and the subject of vigorous policy debate. International concerns are also increasingly influencing the direction of discussion on financial economic issues. In the course, emphasis will be given to the role of asymmetric information in financial markets and associated regulatory issues that arise, the fundamentals of interest rates and financial institutions, the money supply process and the conduct of the Federal Reserve, the behavior of exchange rates and the international financial system, and rational expectations and the working of efficient markets.

This course is designed to provide the student with a basic and fundamental understanding of Lebanese public budget and finance. The student will get an overview about main issues of ethics, internal control, financial statement analysis, Lebanese taxes, business law (as it relates to accounting), financial accounting and business consulting. The student will also get to know characteristics of public financial management and administration. This course will center on Lebanese income tax concepts, such as property transactions and their impact for business decisions. Furthermore, to equip candidates with the knowledge and understanding of the basic concepts, principles and current tax practices in Malaysia as well as the ability to solve practical problems and to be familiar with aspects of other relevant legislation.  
 
BE322 - Small Business Management  
This introductory course assumes no deep knowledge of business. Indeed, it provides students with an overview of business in an-increasingly global society. This is not a course of theory; it is more an application or "how-to" course. It is designed to increase awareness of the opportunities and challenges in today's business environment. The success of any business depends upon several factors: marketing, management and leadership, human resources, financing, logistics, planning, and knowledge of the business environment. An overview of business topics will be discussed including the entrepreneur's success factors, developing business plans, forms of business ownership, management and leadership styles, marketing and market research, technology and e-commerce, understanding financial statements and testing the feasibility and viability of a new venture.  
 
T175 - Exploring Information and Communication Technology  
We live in a networked world. Information and communication technologies (ICT) are all around us: in homes, offices, shops, schools and hospitals. Do you ever wonder how these networked systems work? How can an email message find its way to the other side of the world in seconds? How can you browse the web while you are out-and-about? This course looks inside these technologies, explores how they work in a range of situations (including entertainment, transport and health) and considers where they might take us next.  
 
M150 - Data Computing and Information  
The major theme of M150 is the transformation of data into information using computers. You will also learn to write simple programs. This will provide you with the basic knowledge required for further study of computing if you wish to continue with the subject. If your interests lie elsewhere, you will find that what you learn will enable you to use a computer to produce better information (whether it will be a website, a document, a piece of music, or a picture) and to combine different types of information successfully.  
 
BU130 - Managing in the Workplace  

This is an ideal first course for the students studying business studies or management. This work-based learning course will help students to build a career and give them the skills to improve their performance at work. Most courses are designed around a particular subject (for example, management or marketing) and so provide students with an academic area for learning. It provides students with an opportunity to negotiate their own learning experiences to help them develop an ability to learn and so to improve their practices at work. The course includes the creation of a personal learning contract that the students will develop as their work through the course.

This course develops understanding of students to their own learning, its role and impact in the workplace so as to plan and manage their learning towards the achievement of aims and objectives that fit their career. It enables the students to engage in reflective learning by reflecting on, evaluating and applying experiential learning in their own professional, occupational and workplace contexts. It helps students to focus their learning on important issues in their day to day work. With the help of this course students will be able to communicate arguments, ideas and issues effectively using appropriate styles and language. It also teaches them to read and interpret information presented in a variety of forms and perform relevant tasks for analysis and evaluation. It develops in the students the skills they need for making the most of university.

 
 
M248 - Data Analysis  
The course begins with a brief discussion of numerical and graphical summaries of data. Fundamental statistical models for variation (such as the binomial distribution and the normal distribution) are covered, and the problem of assessing the quality of the models in a given data context is discussed. There are units on estimation, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, regression and two-variable problems. The last unit reviews the whole course. Four exercise booklets contain extra problems and exercises based on the course material, which students might like to use during the year and as part of a revision programme.  The course is based on data and prompted by problems. A typical approach might be to present a question such as ‘Is this drug better than that one?' or ‘What is the relationship between this stimulus and that response?' Then data are collected in order to answer the question, and the appropriate statistical methods are developed and discussed.  
 
B120 -  An Introduction to Business Studies  
This course will introduce you to the different internal and external elements of a business and help you to understand the context in which a business operates. You will explore the common aims and characteristics of business and what makes them different. Business structures, cultures and functions are identified and the political, social, economic, technological and ethical considerations affecting business are introduced. The course consists of five study books: What is a business?; An introduction to human resources in business; An introduction to marketing in business; An introduction to accounting and finance in business; Other ways of looking at business, plus a Study Companion to guide you through the course.  
 
LB160 - Business English Comunication  
This course is for students of business studies who want to develop specialised reading and writing skills for business study purposes. On the course, students will study a range of business related material that has been especially designed to develop their knowledge and their reading and writing skills. Topics include areas of human resource management; finance and accounting; marketing and a number of business analysis methods. Some of the course materials are authentic texts from the business world, others have been adapted or designed for the course. Different styles of writing from business studies and business are introduced. Through examining successful examples of student writing and work-related documents, and reflecting on what makes these texts successful, students will learn to write case studies, essays and reports.  
 
B200 - Understanding Business Behavior  

This course explains how businesses are structured, how they work, how their environments influence them, and how they try to control competitive market pressures.  Understanding the complexities and uncertainties of all this is not easy, so the course discusses different approaches and ways of seeing organizations and markets.  It enables students to evaluate and use information and theories, thus improving their capacity for rigorous assessment.  Finally, the course defines and develops three groups of related business skills: study and presentation, IT, and numeracy.  Much use is made of computer conferencing for learning and debate between students and dedicated conferencing tutors.  Course tutors are expected to participate.    .pdf details

This course develops an understanding of how organizations work through the contributions of five key business functions – human resources, information, marketing, operations, accounting and finance – and how those are integrated.  Working with a selection of textbooks, you will look at the key practices of the ‘traditional’ business functions and the contributions they make to organizations, individually and collectively.  Case studies and specially written texts enable you to see the origins, rationale, limitations and strengths of business functions from the perspectives of various stakeholders.  You will develop skills in finding and organizing information, preparing simple presentations, and using basic software packages and computer conferencing.  The student will need a personal computer and access to the internet.   .pdf details

B300 - Business Behavior in a Changing World  

This course is designed to develop an understanding and knowledge of strategic organizational issues and how organizations respond to change in their environments.  The course has three main teaching modules: decision-making, strategy and policy.  Students look at how organizations make strategic decisions and consider rationality and routines, decision methods and decision processes.  They analyze how organizations develop strategy, notions of core competence and strategic innovation.  A range of policy and environmental concepts and cases that demonstrate the impact of the macro-environment on organizations are studied.  Students are made aware of the boundaries of strategy in terms of relationships between strategies at the level of the firm, the industry, the nation, the region and globally.  Three groups of related business skills are developed: study and presentation skills, IT and numeracy skills, and computer conferencing for learning and debate.  Course tutors are expected to participate.  .pdf details

This one-year course caters for people who have no degree but want a route into the accounting profession as well as for anyone who needs fundamental accountancy skills in a management or other role.
