The Arab Open University in Egypt is a non–profit Higher Education Institution established with the primary objective of providing quality education for young and adult learners. AOU is a partner of the British Open University (UKOU).

   The role of AOU is to teach students how to think , not what to think.
It aims to develop students' critical thinking skills, and prepare them for a constantly changing world, one in which no particular ideology is exclusively true, but within which they strive to expand their knowledge.

   AOU hires highly qualified professors and staff members who assist their students to become, through education, persons who could take initiative, become fully aware of the global challenges, and be able to formulate innovative and ambitious ideas to change society for the better. Since AOU is a university with a diverse blend of students, it provides them with an opportunity to become active learners who interact and engage in the process of learning acquisition, that allows them to network, learn from their fellow colleagues, and celebrate their diversity and be heard.
