“The Translation Track offered by the faculty of Language studies is designed to give students a focused, relevant and utilizable body of knowledge in the major principles and approaches to translation, in addition to application and practice. The programme equips students with knowledge about the skills involved in translation and the linguistic expertise needed to analyze language and produce the appropriate expressions in the source and target language. Graduates also enjoy an improved technical experience in the use of computer and electronic translation tools."
The knowledge and skills offered by the program provide students with vital assets to enable future employability and career success.

Career Opportunities

Translation track graduates have a broad range of job opportunities in the private and public sector employment using language flexibility, knowledge and expertise. Public functions within Ministries of Information, Foreign Affairs, Justice, the Parliament and Security Forces can be the destination for graduates of the programme. In addition, the services sector, tourism, banks, trade, industry, the information sector, press agencies, publishing houses, printed and electronic media, advertising, the education sector, schools, universities and teaching centers, as well as international companies and organizations​

Method of delivery

  • Face-to-face in addition to blended learning via LMS or CLMS.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted in any Bachelor's Programme, the student should fulfil the following conditions:

1. Obtain a general secondary school certificate or equivalent, which must be approved by the Ministry of Education in Bahrain.

2. Students should be fluent in the English Language and should show evidence by providing the results of internationally accredited tests of English Language, if available. The minimum required scores are as follows:
     a) TOFEL: Paper based 500
     b) IELTS: 5


Duration

  • The duration of the BA programme is 4 years (8 semesters).
  • Upon the completion of all the programme requirements (129 - 133 credit hours), students are awarded a BA Honors English Language, Literature and Translation - a dual degree: A Certificate from the AOU approved by the Supreme Council of Universities in Egypt & a Certificate from the Open University - United Kingdom

Programme Specification
The BA (Hons) English Language, Literature and Translation Track combines two popular disciplines: English and Translation. For this purpose, it employs modules from both the BA (hons) English Language and Literature Programme and some other translation modules. The mandatory university requirements, the university requirements and university electives are the same in the English Language and literature programme (ELL), and the English Language, literature and Translation (ELLT). 
 
Why English Language, Literature and Translation?

The English Language, Literature and Translation Track will:

  • Provide for development in the subject area.
  • Provide students with solid English language skills.
  • Provide students with a broad understanding of the English language, contemporary use and development as a global language.
  • Provide students with a wide-ranging knowledge of the literary texts that have been either written in English or translated into English.
  • Combine the study of major principles and scholarly approaches to translation with application and practice. 
  • Provide the required know-how for competent translators who can work in private and public sectors using language with flexibility, knowledge and expertise.
  • Develop students' skills of analysis and interpretation of both literary and non-literary texts.
  • Enable students to develop a critical understanding of the traditions and approaches to the study and interpretation of language and literary texts.
  • Provide students with opportunities to develop conceptual and communication skills, and to progress towards more independent thinking and judgment.
  • Develop students' IT and socio-cultural skills.

Tuition Fees

​AOU follows the credit hour system. 

Tuition fees are calculated based on the total number of credit hours for which you are registered, in addition to the cost of the educational books. 

Cost per Credit Hour is 1120 ​​LE.
