About Program

​​MA in English Literature - This is Master’s Program in English Literature that started in Egypt branch in Fall (2017 – 2018), and continues to be a very successful program. It accepts graduates of the Faculty of Arts (English Department) or the Faculty of Al-Alsun (Faculty of Languages – English Department). The program has a diverse intake that includes graduates of both private and state universities with a general mention of good. It is a two-year study in the program after which the student is granted a dual certificate: one exclusive British certificate granted by The Open Univers​ity – UK, and the other is granted by the Supreme Council of Universities in Egypt.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the programme, you need to:

 

A. Have a BA degree in English Language and Literature or a related specialization

from the Arab Open University or another recognized university with a graduation

rating of GOOD or higher in light of local accreditation requirements in the branch

countries.

B. Achieve Band 6 or higher in the Academic Version of the ‘International English

Language Testing System' (IELTS) test,

OR

Achieve a score of 550 or more in the ‘Test of English as a Foreign

Language’(TOEFL) (Paper-Based Test) or the equivalent score in the Computer Based Test.

 

​C. Some branches require an interview and recommendation letters.​


Method of delivery
Blended Learning: Seminar-like classes on campus, zoom meetings for follow-up and LMS (Learning management System) for uploading material and actively interacting with students. This is in addition to the AOU e-library where the MA students make the best benefit for their researches and their theses through their free access to the AOU e-library.

Duration
A two-year academic study at least that includes eight 4-credit-hour courses (32 credit hours) and a dissertation (16 credit hours).

Full time or part time
Both full-time and part-time tutors teach in the MA program. All full-time tutors co-supervise MA dissertations. Main supervisors are both full-time and part-time professors.

Programme Specification

This taught postgraduate programme in literature will:

  • build upon and develop students’ existing knowledge of, and interest in, the study of literature;
  • provide students with appropriate training in methods of research in literature at postgraduate level;
  • provide students with the opportunity to carry out a substantial piece of independent research, and write this up using the appropriate scholarly apparatus;
  • enable students to read, think, speak and write critically about literary texts, both in relation to other texts and in context.

Why MA in English Literature?
The program endows the students with a host of necessary skills which help them find rewarding job opportunities or boost their current ones. The MA in Literature graduates will pursue academic careers at very well-reputed international universities.  The program provides students with the opportunity to carry out a substantial piece of independent research, and to write this up using the appropriate scholarly apparatus.  The programme qualifies students to teach in international schools and universities after graduation, and to pursue an academic career. We link up our students with other universities where they present their research work by participating in conferences and, later on, publication. Some of our graduates are now working at very well-reputed international universities.

Tuition Fees

​AOU follows the credit hour system. 

Tuition fees are calculated based on the total number of credit hours for which you are registered, in addition to the cost of the educational books. 

Cost per Credit Hour is 1470 LE.

Admission Fees Per Semester Is 2000 LE.​
