Dear Students, Parents, and Visitors,
Welcome to the Arab Open University (AOU) - Egypt. Arab Open University is a non-profitable higher education institution that aims at giving equal chances to all people who seek high quality education. Its full affiliation to the Open University in UK opens for all students high-standard horizons of learning as they study the same curricula taught in the UK. The AOU, accordingly, is the only university in Egypt that grants its students an exclusive British certificate, and at highly competitive installed tuition fees. This qualifies its graduates to work worldwide. Since its inception in 2002, AOU’s mission has been to develop and disseminate knowledge, and build expertise according to international quality standards without time or geographical barriers for the sake of contributing and preparing manpower for development needs, and to build science and knowledge society in The Arab countries. AOU- Egypt stands true to this mission and is thriving, thanks to the contributions of our distinguished faculties, our dedicated staff, and our diverse and ambitious student body. One of the main points of strengths in the branch is the postgraduate studies offered in the faculties of Language Studies, Computer Science and Business Administration. The MA [MA in English Literature & MA in TEFL], MSc [Cyber Security and Forensics], and MBA [Masters in Business Administration] are offered in the Open University in the UK as well. The reports of external examiners reflect the distinction of the postgraduate programs as they consider them as even better than some HEI (Higher Education Institutions) in England as per their description in their reports. Some of the MA holders already work in British universities after being granted the exclusive British certificate. They also participate in international conferences and have internationally published papers/books. They distinctively pursue their academic careers (PhD) in state universities in Egypt.
The AOU-Egypt is unique in granting graduates a dual degree: one from the Open University (OU) in the UK and the other from the AOU. The degree offered from the AOU is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and validated by the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities; thereby equivalent to those offered by the Egyptian universities.
With more than 230,419 students and 53,984 alumni across nine Arab countries, the Arab Open University strives to provide an innovative, professionally-focused and high-quality education for young and adult students at reasonable fees. AOU - Egypt has 12026 students along the past years and 2336 alumni . Coursework is integrated, accessible and well-supported by a learning process that allows students to interact with their tutors and colleagues, while leveraging a self-learning platform built on the latest information and communication technologies. For example, the Learning Management System (LMS), adopted by the AOU, helps students to get their required activities and support material, upload their assignments, and know their continuous assessment results. It is considered an important platform that links up the students with the tutors in crisis times like the COVID19 pandemic. The LMS also helps all students follow up what they have missed in classes. There is also CLMS (Centralized LMS) where the students can access the material uploaded by the course chair across branches. This gives equal educational chances to all AOU students in the nine branches. The free access to view and download articles/books at the AOU E-Library is a great asset that helps undergraduate and post-graduate students equally in writing distinguished research papers. The E-Library has recently been upgraded, includes subscriptions to a lot of databases like ProQuest, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), EBSCO host, ERIC, JSTOR, Free e-books: University of Leicester Library, and Free Information Technology (IT) Books: online programming books.
Beyond academics, our students thrive in a multitude of extracurricular activities and community engagements. Whether it’s organizing community service events like blood donation campaigns, orphan and handicapped-support efforts or directing and performing our
annual play, these activities provide an essential aspect of our students’ development and prepare them to tackle our society’s challenges.
Finally, I want to draw attention to our rapidly growing career development and planning services and the increasing profile of AOU-Egypt among recruiters. We signed a memorandum of understanding with many reputable institutions where our students can have internships and guarantee job positions after graduation. We also host many guest speakers of different majors who introduce the students properly to the requirements of the job market. I also want to pay tribute to AOU-Egypt recent graduates. As they venture out in the professional world and pursue dynamic and rewarding careers, I hope that they continue to embody the values of curiosity, critical thinking and dedication that form the essence of their time at AOU. I look forward to seeing you on campus. I am glad to have you as part of our AOU family. Sincerely,
Prof. Nermeen Khedr
