Under the generous sponsorship of His Excellency Professor Dr. Mahmoud Abu Al-Nasr, President of the Arab Open University in Egypt, the Master’s Program in English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) was hosted by Professor Shahid Abrar Al-Hassan, Professor at Yorkville University in Canada. He worked as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Southeast University (Dong Nang) in Nanjing, China as well as a professor at the Asia Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand.
Professor Shahid is Editor-in-Chief of System (the prestigious international journal of Educational Technology and Applied Linguistics) and Editor-in-Chief of TESOL published by Wiley-Blackwell. He served as a member of the Advisory Committee for the TESOL Certificate Program at the University of Missouri, USA, and was a visiting scholar at the University of Texas at San Antonio, USA.
Professor Shahid presented a professional development seminar on modern trends in English language assessment and examinations, at the headquarters of the Arab Open University in Shorouk, attended by a group of faculty members and those interested in teaching the English language. The seminar was presented by Professor Najwa Younis, Professor of Linguistics and Dean of the Master’s Program in English at the University. Dr. Rami Shabara at the University of Hertfordshire, Dr. Manar Shalabi at the Arab Open University, Dr. Ramadan Farid at Ain Shams University, Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghamri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, and many researchers and interested parties also participated in the seminar. Teaching English in Egypt. The seminar was also attended via Zoom by faculty members and graduate students from other branches of the university.
